Flood Warden Scheme
As flooding is becoming an increasing risk, it is important that communities have the support and capability needed to increase their resilience for future events. One way to help achieve this is with the Flood Warden Scheme. This is a voluntary, community-owned scheme, supported by the Environment Agency and Derbyshire County Council on behalf of the Derbyshire Resilience Partnership, whereby active members of the community play the vital role of Flood Warden. A Flood Warden can help their community prepare for, respond to and recover from flooding. The role can involve as much or as little as volunteers are willing to put in, and may include activities such as creating a community flood plan, encouraging residents and businesses to register for Flood Warnings, and being the vital link between the emergency services and those affected during a flood. Flood Wardens can also have direct communication with our Flood Warning Duty Officers before, during and after an incident.
Training Event
Derbyshire County Council and the Environment Agency are hosting an evening event outlining the Flood Warden role and providing some basic training on water safety, organisational remits and community flood plans. This will take place at 5:30-8pm on Thursday 13th June 2024, at County Hall, Matlock. A poster is attached with further details.
If this voluntary scheme is something you and your community are interested in setting up, please send a representative(s) from your Parish/Town Council or community to attend. Book your place by emailing floodresilience.eastmidlands@environment-agency.gov.uk
